When God Asks You to Choose Again

One morning, I was going about my day when the Lord brought a scripture to my heart: “How long are you going to sit on the fence? If God is the real God, follow Him…” — 1 Kings 18:21 (MSG)

That hit me hard.

I wanted to respond confidently—“Lord, I’ve already chosen You!” but deep in my spirit, I knew He was asking me to examine that answer more closely. Not because I hadn’t chosen Him once… but because life has a way of testing that choice again and again.

You see, sometimes we need to choose Him again.

Not because He’s moved but because we’ve drifted.

Not because our love for Him is gone, but because other loves have crept in. Worry, control, comfort, pride, and even good intentions can cloud our hearts and redirect our focus.

If you’re in a season where God is gently asking you to choose again, here are a few things I’ve learned that may help:

1. Check What’s Competing for First Place

Ask yourself honestly: What has taken God’s place in my heart? It may not be a golden idol, but it could be the idol of financial security, the need for approval, the fear of failure, or the desire to control your own path.

📝 Tip: Journal what’s been occupying your thoughts most lately. That’s a clue to what you’re truly trusting in.

2. Listen to the Emotional Signals

Sometimes, it’s not about making a bold, sinful decision; it’s about letting our emotions drive us instead of our faith. Anxiety, frustration, burnout, and control can all be signs that we’re not fully surrendered.

God asked me once, “Why are you anxious if I’m your Provider?” It wasn’t judgment, it was an invitation to return to peace by choosing Him again.

📝 Tip: When emotions rise, pause and ask: What truth of God’s Word am I ignoring right now?

3. Beware of Masked Motives

We can do good things for the wrong reasons. Ministry, service, and even generosity can subtly become self-driven when our motivation is fear or pride.

Ask yourself: Is this for God’s glory—or my own comfort?

📝 Tip: Before making decisions, pray: “Lord, purify my motives. Let me be led by Your Spirit, not my flesh.”

4. Return to Simplicity

Sometimes, we overcomplicate our relationship with God. We try to fix everything, plan everything, and know everything. But God wants us to rest, to trust, and to follow. He’s not impressed by our performance; He desires our surrender.

📝 Tip: Go back to basics: time in prayer, time in His Word, and time listening without an agenda. Re-center your heart on who He is.

5. Let the Holy Spirit Lead You Forward

Choosing again doesn’t mean starting over. It means moving forward with clarity and humility. The Holy Spirit will gently guide us into realignment, not with shame, but with grace.

Choosing again is not a failure. It’s faith in motion.

📝 Tip: Ask the Holy Spirit daily: What does choosing You look like today?

Final Thoughts

God is never afraid of our crossroads. In fact, He meets us there. He gently invites us to realign our hearts, reset our motives, and renew our faith.

If God is asking you today, “Will you choose Me again?” don’t run from the question. Lean in.

He’s not asking because you’ve failed. He’s asking because He wants your whole heart, undivided, undistracted, and fully His.

Say yes. Again.
