The Unraveling: When God Begins to Unravel What You Thought Was Fine

Have you ever pulled a loose thread on a sweater?

You reach for your favorite one, the one you have worn for years because it feels so soft, so familiar, so comfortable. It is the one you always go back to without thinking twice. Then one day, you notice something small. A tiny thread sticking out.

At first, you try to ignore it. You tuck it back in, hoping it will stay in place. You already know that if you pull it, something might start to come undone. So you leave it alone.

But eventually, your finger catches that thread again. This time, you pull.

And just like that, everything begins to shift. The neat pattern starts loosening, and what once looked whole slowly begins to unravel.

I did not realize it at the time, but that sweater became a picture of what God was beginning to do in my life.

He was pulling on threads I did not even know were loose.

When God Starts Revealing What We Have Ignored

Quiet moments of focus and warmth

There are things in our lives that we become comfortable with. Patterns, thoughts, habits, even ways of thinking that feel normal simply because they have been there for so long.

We learn how to manage them. We learn how to hide them. We learn how to tuck them in so they are not as noticeable.

From the outside, everything can look fine. Everything can even feel fine.

But God sees beyond what we are willing to acknowledge.

In His love, He begins to pull on those areas. Not all at once, but gently, intentionally, and with purpose. What we thought was secure begins to loosen. What we thought was settled begins to shift.

And if we are honest, it can feel uncomfortable.

Because unraveling forces us to see what we have been avoiding.

The Difference Between Following and Surrendering

One of the first things God showed me during that season was the difference between following Him and surrendering to Him.

For a long time, I believed I was following God. I was doing what I thought I was supposed to do. I had a routine, a rhythm, a way of living that felt aligned.

But surrender is different.

Following allows you to stay in control while still acknowledging God.

Surrender requires you to release control completely.

It means allowing God access to every part of your life, even the parts you would rather keep tucked away. It means trusting Him enough to let Him pull on the very things you have worked hard to keep together.

Surrender is not just about walking with God. It is about allowing Him to transform you.

The Unraveling Has a Purpose

The Unraveling Has a Purpose

When things begin to come undone, it is easy to feel like something is wrong.

It can feel like you are losing control or like everything you thought was stable is falling apart. But what if it is not falling apart at all?

What if it is being revealed so it can be restored?

God does not pull on threads to leave us undone. He pulls on them so He can show us what needs His attention, His healing, and His truth.

Every area He exposes is an invitation.

An invitation to grow.

An invitation to heal.

An invitation to trust Him in a deeper way.

What Are You Holding Together?

There comes a moment when we have to ask ourselves some honest questions.

What have I been trying to keep together on my own?

What have I been tucking away instead of dealing with?

Am I truly surrendered, or have I simply learned how to follow comfortably?

These are not always easy questions, but they are necessary.

Because God is not interested in a version of us that looks whole on the outside while quietly unraveling within.

He desires wholeness from the inside out.

Let Him Do the Work

Let Him Do the Work

If you find yourself in a season where things feel like they are shifting or coming undone, take a moment to pause.

Instead of resisting it, consider that God may be doing a deeper work in you.

He may be revealing something that needs to be healed.

He may be pulling on something that needs to be surrendered.

He may be inviting you into a closer, more intimate walk with Him.

What feels like unraveling may actually be the beginning of restoration.
