What if I’m waiting for someone else to lead… but God is waiting on me?
That question challenges me every time I think about Deborah.
Her name means bee, small, easily overlooked. Nothing in her name screams “national leader.” Nothing about her description suggests dominance or force.
Yet Deborah rose as a judge in Israel during a time when strong leadership was scarce. The nation was oppressed. Fear was common. Passivity was easier than action.
And then came the defining moment.
Would she wait for someone else to step forward?
Or would she embrace the authority God had already placed on her life?
Deborah didn’t shrink.
She didn’t apologize for her calling.
She didn’t sit under the palm tree doubting her voice.
She spoke.
And when she stepped into authority, something powerful happened — a nation found courage.
That part moves me deeply.
Sometimes we think leadership is about position. But Deborah teaches me that leadership is about obedience.
There are rooms I’ve walked into where I felt small. Where I questioned if my voice carried weight. Where it would have been easier to let someone else speak first.
But what if silence is actually disobedience?

Deborah’s strength wasn’t in her size. It wasn’t in physical power. It was in her alignment with God.
She heard Him.
She trusted Him.
She acted.
And when Barak hesitated, she didn’t crumble under the pressure. She stood firm.
I’ve realized something in my own life: shrinking never serves the assignment.
If God has called me to speak, I must speak.
If He has called me to lead, I must lead.
If He has given me authority, I must walk in it.
Deborah’s name became her destiny.
Small in description. Powerful in assignment.

Maybe you’ve been waiting for someone else to go first.
Maybe you’ve been dimming your light in rooms where God is asking you to stand.
This is your reminder:
You don’t need a louder personality.
You don’t need more validation.
You don’t need permission from people.
If God has called you, He has already equipped you.
And when you step into obedience, you may not just change your own life — you may unlock courage in someone else.
