The struggle is real. The scripture–Romans 7:14 - 25–is the truth. If you haven’t had a chance to read it, please take the time to do so. It’s exactly how I have experienced my Christian walk. A lot of times I want to do things right, but I don’t. It’s just my old self coming out again and again. I’ve lived with this old person so long that my responses are automatic.
Some people shut down; others might have self-esteem issues. I can be sarcastic. However, either way, we all have something. It’s not as bad as it used to be, but it’s still there. Most of the time, I can catch it before it comes out, but some thoughts are still in my mind. Thank God for the Holy Spirit, which prompts me to do better.
People are a part of your everyday life. Someone is bound to touch a nerve or say something inappropriate. Even in a church where we are all learning and growing, you will be tested. Some tests we pass, others we fail, but thank God for grace and mercy that allows us to retake the test!
Some steps I have taken and continue to take are:
Listening and being open to the Holy Spirit’s corrections and following His directions. “But when the Comforter is come, whom I will send unto you from the Father, even the Spirit of truth, which proceedeth from the Father, he shall testify of me:” John 15:26
Believe that you’re only convicted, not condemned. “There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit.” Romans 8:1
When you’re prompted to apologize for your incorrect behavior, do it. “Confess your faults one to another, and pray one for another, that ye may be healed. The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much.” James 5:16
By doing these things…over time, I’ve been learning how to incorporate Christ into every area of my life.
Below are two books that God has inspired me to write. "The Flip Side" which is available now and "Blinded By Sight, The Heart Matters" coming soon.
So… what’s this book about?
“The Flip Side” depicts the possible feelings and emotions of lesser-known Biblical characters as they navigated their lives in the shadows of the more popular characters in the Bible. While the Bible gives us snippets of their stories, we are usually left in the dark about their true motives, desires, and thoughts concerning the situations they are in. However, one certainty is that despite how little we know about these characters, they were often the catalysts to pivotal moments in the main characters’ lives.
So… what’s this book about?
Join me on a journey of self-discovery. “Blinded by Sight - The Heart Matters” is a compilation of short biblical devotions. These stories are not conclusive. They are depictions of how God is revealing my heart to me.
My prayer is, Lord, make it real for me, show me your heart, show me my heart, and give me the wisdom to change what hinders my relationship with you. I am learning that my perception is my biggest obstacle it affects my mind, what I think, and how I process my experiences. What I have experienced in my mind is expressed through my feelings and these experiences dictate my choices either consciously or subconsciously.
This devotional will allow you to explore and evaluate your past and present situations that have hindered you from seeing the heart of the matter. Simply put, look at the heart – it does matter. Your future depends on it!
I sought the Lord, and he answered me; he delivered me from all my fears. Psalms 34:4
