Healing Isn’t Linear

Did you know that healing isn’t linear?

Just because you’re hurting again doesn’t mean you’re not healed. It doesn’t mean you’ve gone backward. And it certainly doesn’t mean God has stopped working in your life.

Healing does not move in a straight line.

Some days you feel strong, grounded, and hopeful. Other days, emotions you thought were long gone resurface: grief, fear, anger, and sadness. Those moments can feel confusing and discouraging, especially when you believed you had already “moved past” that pain. But healing doesn’t work the way we often expect it to.

God doesn’t heal in shortcuts.

He heals in stages.

When old feelings rise again, it isn’t a sign of failure; it’s often a sign that God is healing deeper layers. Layers you couldn’t reach before. Layers that required more strength, more awareness, more trust than you previously had. What once would have overwhelmed you, God now allows to surface because you’re stronger than you used to be.

That’s progress, even when it doesn’t feel like it.

Healing is not about never feeling pain again. It’s about becoming freer, steadier, and more anchored in God as you walk through it. Each layer God touches brings more freedom than the last, even if the process feels uncomfortable at times. He knows exactly how much you can handle, and He is gentle with your wounds.

Be patient with yourself.

God already is.

We are often far harder on ourselves than God ever is. We expect quick recovery, emotional perfection, and constant strength. But God’s posture toward us is not frustration, it’s compassion. He does not rush the process. He does not shame you for struggling. He does not withdraw when you feel weak.

Psalm 147:3 tells us:

“He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds.”

Notice the tenderness in that verse. Binding wounds takes time. It requires care, attention, and gentleness. God does not rip off bandages prematurely. He heals thoroughly, not hastily.

So give yourself grace.

The same grace God is already giving you.

If today feels harder than yesterday, it doesn’t cancel the healing that has already taken place. It simply means God is continuing the work. Healing is still happening, even in the tears, even in the questions, even in the quiet moments when you feel tired of the process.

You are not broken beyond repair.

You are not starting over.

You are not alone.

You are healing, layer by layer, moment by moment, held by a God who is faithful to finish what He started.

Be blessed, and remember: healing is still happening.
