Discovering Your God-Given Purpose—What Will You Do?

The other day, I was in one of those reflective moods. You know the kind—where you feel everything at once but can’t quite name the emotion. I found myself asking, “Lord, what’s my purpose in this season?”
And then someone asked me a question that shifted everything:
“What is it that you’re willing to go to your grave doing?”
Whew.
That question wrecked me—in the best way.
What is so deeply planted in your spirit that even if you were never applauded, paid, or noticed, you’d still show up and do it? What calling feels like a holy burden, something you carry not for recognition but out of obedience?
That, beloved, is purpose.
It’s not always about a platform or position. It’s not even about what makes you “successful” in the world’s eyes. It’s about what makes you faithful to God.
Purpose is what you do when it’s hard. Purpose is what you keep doing when you’re tired. Purpose is the thing you say “yes” to even when fear tries to say “no.”
For some of us, that’s teaching truth in classrooms, pulpits, or around kitchen tables. For others, it’s nurturing the next generation, creating beauty, building businesses, or speaking up for justice.
But for all of us, it’s about making Christ known through whatever He’s assigned to our hands.
I had to sit with that question. Really sit with it. And as I prayed, God began to show me something. Purpose isn’t about striving to become something. It’s about surrendering to what’s already been placed inside of you. The seed has already been planted. The question is—will you cultivate it?
Here’s what I know about discovering purpose:
It doesn’t always feel clear, but it will feel persistent.
It may not look like anyone else’s, and that’s a good thing.
It won’t always be easy, but it will be worth it.
If you’re in a season of questioning—wondering what God is calling you to—start here:
Ask yourself, “What would I do for the rest of my life, even if no one clapped for me, because I know it pleases God?”
That’s where you begin.
Then take that thing to prayer. Ask God to show you how to steward it. Don’t rush. Don’t compare. And don’t discount what seems small.
The truth is, some of the most powerful assignments come in quiet packages. Purpose is sometimes a whisper before it’s a roar.
And yes, you’ll have moments of fear, doubt, even resistance. But purpose has a way of calling you back, again and again. And each time you say “yes,” you grow a little stronger. A little clearer. A little more confident that He who began a good work in you will finish it.
So let me ask you again:
💭 What’s the thing you’d go to your grave doing because you know God planted it in you?
If you don’t have an answer yet—that’s okay. Stay with God. Keep seeking. Keep serving. He will show you.
And if you do know? Then walk in it boldly. Don’t wait for a crowd. Don’t wait for the stars to align. Start with what’s in your hand—and trust God with the rest.
Purpose isn’t just about doing. It’s about becoming. It’s about who you are when everything else fades. And the good news? God already knows exactly who you are, and He’s calling you higher.
You are here on purpose, with purpose, for purpose.
Now, what will you do?
